Giving Spotlight: Earth Week
At Grasshopper Goods, our vision is deeply intertwined with community—both the tight-knit, artsy Stoughton community that welcomed us with open arms and communities in need around the world. We acknowledge that we wouldn't be here without the support of others. For this reason, we show our gratitude by working to create a collaborative community through supporting independent artists and makers and by paying it forward whenever we can.
How We Give Back
We’re committed to giving back and championing causes across education, social justice, and sustainability. As an educator who is deeply passionate about the field, I knew I needed to connect my love of education to Grasshopper Goods in some way. Teachers are endlessly inspiring, embodying the spirit of our shop directly. So with all purchases made in shop, teachers forever receive a 10 percent discount.
We also seek giving partnerships wherever we can, and are always looking for ways to make an impact. Over the past year, we’ve donated portions of our sales to Black Women Speak, Friends of UW Health, the P.E.O. Foundation, and Stoughton Yoga. This mission helps keep us accountable to our goal of effecting real, lasting change in our community and beyond.
Our Earth Week Opportunity
This year, we’re excited to form more partnerships and give back through events with Vinny, our truck that houses our mobile shop. When looking for a charitable partnership for this month, we knew we wanted to focus on Earth Week. This beautiful celebration of Mother Earth that considers ways to best care for our planet ties back to our love of travel and the joy we get out of new experiences. After all, Grasshopper Goods came to be after a serendipitous trip to the Caribbean!
For Earth Week, from April 19 to April 23, 2021, we’ll be donating a percentage of all sales to Clean Lakes Alliance.
Did you know it takes only 72 hours for water in our metro area of Madison, Wisconsin, to impact the ocean? Clean Lakes Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of improving the water quality throughout the Yahara River Watershed. They tirelessly advocate for the lakes we Wisconsinites love to spend our summers swimming and sailing in: Lakes Mendota, Monona, Waubesa, and Kegonsa.
Through work with state, county, and local government as well as individual property owners, waterway groups, and nonprofits, Clean Lakes Alliance ensures our precious lakes are given a voice and continue to be protected.
This Earth Week, we invite you to make a difference with us. So mark your calendars, and make a list of your must-have items. You’ll be gifting for a very good cause!
