Half Day Trips To Cure Your Cabin Fever

Half Day Trips To Cure Your Cabin Fever

It is officially the end of February... which means cabin fever is in full force for most Midwesterners. The honeymoon stage of the winter season has suppressed and the desire for warmer weather has intensified. It's time to get out of the house! But what to do after you've visited every museum, library, and played one too many Candy Lands.

Half day trips! The perfect activity to take up most of the day but requires little to no planning. Plus, it's nice on the wallet.

Nestled in Dane County, there are tons of great cities and towns to visit for a half day trip with the family. Some include:

Stoughton - Of course we had to shoutout our home! We may be just a little bit biased but there's tons of fun things to do while in Stoughton. Stop at Wildwood Cafe for a coffee and pastry followed by a quick visit to the Livsreise: Norwegian Heritage Center full of the rich history of Stoughton. Next, shopping! Walk through Grasshopper Goods, Dune, Overt Space, and more. Need some lunch? Stop by Viking Brew Pub for a pint and a bite!

Monroe - As long as the weather permits, there are tons of trails within Monroe to explore including the Badger State Trail. Another great spot is the Monroe Arts Center! And a must to visit is the oldest brewery in Wisconsin, Minhas Craft Brewery that was founded in 1845.

Mount Horeb - If you're looking for a more strenuous activity, Tyrol Basin is right outside of Mount Horeb and to spend a couple hours on the "slopes". Want something more relaxing? Mount Horeb's Main Street offers tons of great shopping and food options! McFee on Main, The Pop Place, and Duluth Trading Company to name a few.

New Glarus - The town that brews the most renowned Wisconsin beer... New Glarus Brewing Company! Visit and grab a tour of where they brew the infamous Spotted Cow. Check out the Badger State Trail or hop over to some of the great shops in town! Hutch + Hide, New Rose, and Railroad St. Boutique are all wonderful shops to visit.

Cambridge - This quaint town is home to the infamous Rowe Pottery! Visit this super cool studio with the most adorable shop. Their pottery is gorgeous. Head over to the Dancing Goat Distillery for some delectable drinks in a stunning space. Main Street is full of more shops to explore, especially a the Galleria 214! And don't miss out on some tasty lunch at Cambridge Market Cafe.

These just scratch the surface of how many other amazing towns there are to visit in Wisconsin. Have you visited any of these spots? We hope these help inspire you to get out of dodge... even if it is just for a couple of hours.

Great ideas, Karen! I love the Fat Cat Coffee Works in New Glarus next to the Sugar River Trail. You can hike on the Sugar River Trail. The Fat Cat Coffee Works has outstanding coffee and fresh bakery items. Have fun exploring.
